Peace of mind
We have been told by the many clients that have arranged funerals in advance, of
the peace of mind they have, knowing that all the arrangements are in place and
that the loved ones left behind do not have to go through the trauma of having
to make difficult decisions and guessing what the deceased would have wished
for.
Virtually everything can be planned in advance from stating whether you require
cremation or burial, the type of religious ceremony, if any, to a host of
options that mean those left behind know exactly what is required. For example,
it may be a family tradition to have a horse-drawn carriage or you may be
ex-service personnel and would like the Union flag draped across the coffin. We
will endeavour to adhere to your wishes whatever they may be. It would be a very
rare event if we were unable to fulfil even the most sensitive request.
Cost Control
Arranging a funeral in advance also allows there to be no doubt as to the level
of cost of the funeral. It has been said that some grieving families may include
more services than the deceased would have wanted, usually as a way of
demonstrating their loss. Planning ahead ensures that your loved ones budget,
matches their cost. Should you wish for a more elaborate funeral, then this also
enables you to make your wishes known, so that your remaining family know they
have your permission to arrange something on perhaps a grander scale or
something that would be regarded as a little more individual.
Options
There are a number of options available enabling you to arrange a funeral in
advance. You may either make the formal arrangements and settle the cost now,
alleviating some of the responsibility of your loved ones, or you may simply
make the formal arrangements and allow payment to be made at the time of death.
By paying in advance, you have the assurance that funds are deposited directly
into a Trust Fund which is approved by the Financial Services Act which can only
be accessed by the production of various documents upon death. You also have the
assurance that all your Funeral Directors professional fees are covered,
irrespective of when death occurs, which means that unless there is a
change to the arrangements you have made then, there will be no further monies
to pay.
The exception to this are the third party costs, sometimes called disbursements,
which have to be paid, such as crematorium fees, doctors’ fees and church
ministers’ fees. A contribution is made towards these costs, which are outside
the control of the Funeral Director, from the payment that you make initially,
however, there may be a relatively small increase in the sum to pay for these
disbursements at the time of need, dependant on the rate of increase of such
costs.
You may choose one of three pre-set arrangements or you may choose to draw up
your own, individually unique plan.
